Ok. So I'm a Christmas FANATIC and I typically get into the Holiday spirit extremely early. Its November 3 and I am OFFICIALLY in the Holiday Spirit. I freakin' LOVE LOVE LOVE the Holidays. Now, most people like the holidays but usually for the superficial reasons--the presents, the breaks from school. Not me. I love the Holidays because it does something *magical* to the world around me. Everything just gets better.
It starts with the music. I am currently listening to a Holiday Music Channel I created on Pandora and I have not skipped ONE song. Currently, Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song" is playing and I'm actually getting SHEmotional [don't judge me]. This is a really stressful time in my life with ~1 month until final exams, but I'm not stressed: I refuse to be. I'm thinking about my family. About egg nog spiked with a little "happiness" :cough: liquor. Thinking about the 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story on TBS [I'm sorry, its funny when the boy almost shoots his own eye out! haha]. I'm thinking about Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas"--the BEST.CHRISTMAS.SONG.EVER. I included a picture of Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas" because its probably the best Holiday album of all time [wow, I sounded a little Kanye West there, LOL].
Its a time when I feel the greatest love for my friends and family. I revert back to an almost child-like existence. My sisters and I still wait up all night for Santa [except as adults waiting for Santa really entails drinking cocktails and sneaking midnight samples of the Christmas gumbo]. After Christmas, there's Kwanzaa, which my family celebrates as well. Then there's the New Year, where new goals, new promises, and reflections on the past year come.
The Holiday season is just a wonderful time of year where any and everything seems possible. Forgiveness. Love. Renewed friendships. Renewed faith.
I'm officially in the holiday spirit. I hope you can join me!

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I'm not the biggest Mariah Carey fan--ok that's not true--I'm a fan of conservative-dressing-big-hair-having MC pre-boob job Mariah who could sing her ass off. Mariah hasn't sung like that since maybe...Butterfly? I don't know. Anywho, I found a free listen to Mariah's new album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel on Billboard.com and decided to give it a listen. I didn't hate it. Then Perez Hilton said on his website that you could be the mp3 version of the album on Amazon.com for super cheap so I hopped my happy ass over to the website and the CD was....wait for it....$5.99!!!!!! And this CD has like 21 songs on it! I bought it.
Overall, the CD is just OK. If you're a HUGE MC fan, you'll probably love it. It's definitely better than E=MC2, in my opinion. I think Mariah is a good song writer--her simple lyrics crack me up. But she isn't singing like she used to. If this album had come from a Keri Hilson or even Ashanti I'd probably be impressed. But MC wants us to think of her as potentially one of the greats---this album just isn't getting it.
Anywho, there is one song I REALLY like. Its called H.A.T.E.U. [cue Frank's comment: "you are so pessimistic about relationships"] but its a really good song and honestly it reminds me of Heartbreaker. I can't wait to hate him--actually I do hate him. Not in a I'm-spending-all-my-energy-hating-you-kind-of-way but in a we-don't-ever-need-to-talk-again kind of way. I can imagine tons of people feel this way about others in their life. Its the stage after heartbreak/grief where you are PISSED you even felt this bad to begin with. Its a natural and healthy stage of relationship-grief. UPDATE: I put some of the lyrics below as well as a link to a video of MC singing "H.A.T.E.U" live on the Today Show

I can't wait to hate you
Make you pain like I do
Still can't shake you off
I can't wait to break through these emotional changes
Seems like such a lost cause
I can't wait to face you
Break you down so low that there's no place left to go
I can't wait to hate you
