Janelle Monae, "Cold War"

Janelle Monae just released a video for "Cold War" a great song off her album, The ArchAndroid. This video was shot in a single take and around the 1:38 mark Janelle gets overcome by emotions and starts to cry. I love this song so much. I think Janelle is such a beautiful woman and one my favorite artists/albums of the year.

Introducing Janelle Monae

I've been all about Janelle Monae's latest CD The Archandroid lately. I discovered Janelle Monae via Twitter. I admit it, I follow P. Diddy on Twitter and Bad Boy distributed Janelle's latest album. So Diddy was tweeting about her ALL.THE.TIME. So I did a quick Google/Youtube search and found an incredible performance of "Tightrope" on David Letterman. I fell in love with her hair, her style, and her musical swag.

The best way to describe her is maybe Lauryn Hill meets Andre 3000's The Love Below. The Archandroid is a concept album which seamlessly weaves all types of genres and moods. There are R&B, funk, rock, classical and folk influences throughout the album. To say I loved this album would be an understatement. The Archandroid continues a story first introduced on Janelle Monae's first album Metropolis. Its the story of Cindy Mayweather (a robot/android) in the futuristic city of Metropolis. She falls in love with Sir Greendown, a human, but such a relationship is forbidden. As a consequence of her relationship with Sir Greendown, Cindy is sentenced to be disassembled. She goes on the run.

I know it sounds crazy, but Janelle Monae is amazing. She's bizarre, crazy, talented, and brilliant. I love everything about this album and implore everyone to check her out!
