I think Michelle Obama is everything that a First Lady should be: strong, intelligent, opinionated, well-spoken, and supportive. I love that she and Barak are a REAL couple. They are affectionate. They have date night. They spend time with their kids.
Michelle Obama is on the cover of the December issue of Glamour magazine and per usual she looks so vibrant and gorgeous. People.com previewed the cover story on their website. In the article, Mrs. Obama talks about finding a great guy. She says:
Now, this is someone I'd be willing to take "finding a great guy" advice from. Recently I have had conversations about finding Mr. Right with a few people. AJL and I have talked about me opening myself up to something new--maybe stepping outside of what I think I want in a guy and give someone a little different a chance. I think that echoes Michelle's sentiments in Glamour. I've never been a "looks" kind of girl. I've dated non-traditionally cute guys before, but everyone I've ever dated I've found attractive.Cute's good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it's, 'Who are you as a person?' Don't look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul. When you're dating a man, you should always feel good. ... You shouldn't be in a relationship with somebody who doesn't make you completely happy and make you feel whole.
What about the guy who hits on you who you DON'T necessarily find attractive? There's this guy who we'll call Bob, who is a cool ass dude. He hasn't asked me out or blantantly hit on me, but I think he recognizes the fabulousness that is me, LOL. He's such a sweet kid. But, frankly, I am NOT physically attracted to him. While I understand that his personality is great, at what point can you get past the attraction that isn't there? That's something I haven't reconciled with myself. I don't wanna sprinkle seeds with Bob just to be like, "uh nevermind." You can't force an attraction. Maybe after spending a little time with him I'd be attracted. Maybe I wouldn't. I won't take that kind of risk with his feelings, but I guess my question is how open can we really be when "trying new things" in the romance department??
I think Mrs. Obama is right. Cute is only a temporary thing. As Kanye says, "The prettiest people do the ugliest thing...", but I don't think a lack of attraction is a temporary thing. That like herpes is the gift that keeps on giving...
Anywho, I'll definitely be picking up the December issue of Glamour for more words of wisdom from the First Lady.
